I am starting my 20th year of teaching with two years of high school language arts experience prior to moving to CCCS. At the end of this year I will have taught 7th, 8th, 10th, and 11th grade Language Arts! I am originally from the San Francisco Bay Area and moved to Los Angeles over 20 years ago.
I received my Masters in Fine Arts in Creative Writing from Antioch University Los Angeles and also write for the blog Rich In Color, which promotes diversity in Young Adult literature. When I'm not teaching or writing, I enjoy curling up with a good book, being outside in nature, traveling and learning new skills. My guilty pleasure is watching K-dramas, which are Korean soap operas.
My top 5 books are:
1. Parable of the Sower, by Octavia Butler
2. The Handmaid's Tale, by Margaret Atwood
3. Kindred, by Octavia Butler
4. One Hundred Years of Solitude, by Gabriel Garcia Marquez
5. Who Fears Death by Nnedi Okorafor
My top 5 movies are:
1. Shawshank Redemption
2. Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon
3. Life of Pi
4. The Lord of the Rings (the entire movie trilogy)
5. Harry Potter & the Deathly Hallows Pt. 1
