which isn't a word, I know, but I'm going to be like Shakespeare and make up my own words. So, I finished Marie Lu's Champion last week and while I enjoyed the book, I was left with a feeling of incompleteness. At least I think that is the word I want to use. This was my face at the end of the book:
I enjoyed about 90% of the story, it was just a decision the author made at the end that really, really, REALLY annoyed me. She basically did a Deus ex Machina, which means an artificial device resolving the difficulties of a plot. Basically this happens when an author writes his/herself in a corner and just throws a device, such as amnesia, in a plot to fix it. This really drives me crazy because it connotes author laziness. There could have been another way to resolve the issue between the two characters besides amnesia and because of that, because of the ending, I'm not too happy with the book. The series was a good read, however, so I'll keep that in my heart. Maybe after some time, I'll re-read the series as a whole and maybe I'll change my mind. Who knows.
Up for this week is two books that I need to read for various reasons, though I really want to read Matt De La Pena's new book based on an amazing and inspirational essay by him that I read yesterday. It sounds very intense and I think a number of you would really enjoy it.
